Automation and Rigging Lab

room photo.jpg

My final production assignment at UIUC before graduation is centered around an Automation and Rigging Lab. The primary objective of this project is to transform a former storage area into a dedicated laboratory space. The lab will be divided into two sections featuring a rigging area and an automation area. The rigging side will be equipped with various components, including trusses for training purposes such as fall arrest, chain motors, and other essential rigging techniques. The other half will be a space where students can gain hands-on experience in cueing, installing, and operating basic automation systems. This section will include straight and curved deck tracks, a center drive, a friction-driven turntable, and a manual single-purchase lineset that can be operated either manually or with the assistance of a lifting winch. All of our automation equipment is from Creative Connors.

Projector Mount Design

This project involves the design and fabrication of a solution that goes beyond regular assignments; it's a side project with a specific purpose. The primary objective is to create a system that enables our media team to rig large projectors securely and efficiently within our black box grid. Leveraging the existing grid infrastructure, these frames will have the capability to fit into an open section, utilize set screws for secure attachment to the surrounding steel, and pivot on a hinge. This versatility will accommodate various shooting positions to meet the specific requirements of each production.
